The Development of Environmentally Friendly Technology Is a Solution to Overcome the Environmental Crisis

TRIBUNJAKARTA.COM - Rector of IPB Arif Satria said Indonesia is currently faced with an environmental crisis that must be addressed immediately. It is known, damage to natural resources (SDA) is a governance crisis problem which is a failure to regulate the actions of state actors, markets, and communities with an interest in resources.

"Because when we talk about governance, we are talking about the state, the interaction between the state, the market, and society, which is related to natural resources," said Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Chancellor Prof. DR. Arif Satria, S.P., M.Sc. when he was a resource person for a public lecture for the participants of the Akbar Tandjung Institute's National Political Leadership School (SKPB) in Generation X Series 15, which was held in zoom, Wednesday (18/8/2021) night.

This time, the Akbar Tandjung Institute's School of National Political Leadership (SKPB) in Series X Series 15 raised the theme "The Politics of Natural Resources Management: Finding a Meeting Point of Ecological and Political Interests." Arif said that some of the root causes of the crisis of natural resources and the environment depend on anthropocentric environmental ethics, increasing population, accumulation of wealth, inequality and poverty, and failure of development policies (policy failures).

Apart from that, corruption, collusion, nepotism, and weak law enforcement, market failure or no market mechanism in certain natural resources also occur. As well as global capitalization that encourages consumption for a prosperous lifestyle (life style/consumptive), and production technology and service technology that trigger environmental damage and pollution.

"Therefore, if there is a governance crisis, it means that there is a regulatory crisis and the regulation is not a regulation of one actor (only), but how (regulating) market development is good, the state and society can develop properly, arrangements between the market, state and society , "explained Arif. For that, the solution that must be done, said Arif, is how to balance economic rationality and ecological rationality.

“The solution depends on the approach that everyone has a different perspective. However, strengthening economic rationality and ecology must be aligned, among others through technology-based modern ecology. Because if the economic approach is more dominant then there will be environmental damage. If the ecological approach is more dominant, there will be no economic growth,” he added.

Arif gave an example of the development of environmentally friendly technologies such as smoked waste which is confirmed to be a liquid for fertilizers and others, bio-plastics such as cassava plastics, and others.

“So the economy grows, but does not damage the environment. Environmentally friendly technology as a solution. Apart from that, it is also a social movement, which builds an environmentally friendly lifestyle, car free day. There are also interesting things, the Regent of Kuningan, which requires the marriage dowry to add a tree, an environmentally friendly marriage contract, the tumbler movement, the shop does not provide plastic bags. In addition, it will increase community access to manage the environment in a sustainable manner,” Arif added.

Present at this event, the Program Director of the AT Institute, Dr. Agustian Prasetya, and the Executive Director of the AT Institute, Dr. Puji Wahono, and the Head of SKPB Dr. Alfan Alfian. As is known, SKPB regularly invites experts from various fields of science and practitioners to fill in the creative and actual learning process. Participants consist of student and youth activists who are members of the Cipayung Plus Group. Participants were selected from various regions in Indonesia, and during this pandemic it was held online. In addition to leadership lectures, participants also received lectures on economics, ethics, local politics, elections and the party system.
